In 2024, we opened NeuroAscent’s first three free levels to test our educational gaming platform. The calvarium level serves as the gateway to skull anatomy, guiding users through the intricate bones and sutures that protect our brain. The response has exceeded our expectations – 222 users collectively tackled 4,721 questions about calvarium anatomy, maintaining an impressive 71.51% accuracy rate while averaging just 6.96 seconds per response. This level of engagement demonstrates the growing community of dedicated learners passionate about mastering neuroanatomy. Be sure to read our recent post on the growth of our project over the years!
Calvarium Content
The calvarium level was meticulously designed to support learners at every stage of their journey. Housing 34 high-yield anatomical structures commonly tested in medical school exams, the level features 151 carefully crafted questions. The content spans from 32 entry-level questions perfect for beginners to 73 intermediate-level challenges, complemented by 39 advanced questions for those seeking deeper knowledge. Beyond basic identification, we’ve integrated 80 questions on critical anatomical relationships, 17 questions exploring relevant physiology, and 18 clinical applications. This comprehensive approach ensures learners build both foundational knowledge and practical understanding. The availability of free levels to all users in 2024 helped us to continue improving our app: framework and content!

Level 1: Top Users in the Past Year
Our users have shown impressive results in both timed and flashcard modes. Leading our learners is anyamalhotra, who answered 323 questions with an outstanding 88.85% accuracy rate, earning 3,552 points. Snowlouette maintained exceptional precision with 93.25% accuracy across 311 questions, while Lils24 demonstrated efficient mastery, averaging just 4.95 seconds per question across 200 challenges. Together with m.brigger03 and Faithful, who each completed over 180 questions with accuracy rates above 75%, these top performers have earned extended access to all skull levels.
Our timed mode offers an additional challenge, where users have 90 seconds to answer as many questions as possible. Using a specialized algorithm that ensures fair competition regardless of experience level, this format tests both speed and accuracy. In this format, m.brigger03 achieved 317 points with an impressive 88% accuracy. Following closely, ineedmedicine and StudentofSON maintained strong performance with 76.19% and 81.25% accuracy, respectively. Loki and varundvd round out our top performers, demonstrating that combining speed with accuracy leads to effective learning outcomes.
Remember! Selecting a higher difficulty will open the algorithm up to harder questions sooner in gameplay! Harder questions = more points!
